The things people ask us

If there’s something here we haven’t covered, just ask. We’d rather you had the full picture.

The opportunity
Do I need fencing experience?

No. You need to be hands-on, good with tools and willing to learn. Training covers installation, product knowledge, quoting and pricing, and the way we run jobs from first enquiry to finished work.

Can I do this part-time, or alongside another job?

No. This is a full-time business and it needs your full attention, particularly in the first year while you establish yourself.

Can I invest and employ someone else to run it?

Not at the start. We want franchisees on the tools and in front of customers while the business gets established. You build the team as the work grows.

How long before I'm trading?

Around 8 to 12 weeks from first enquiry, depending on how much training you need.

What if there's already a franchisee near me?

Territories are exclusive to one franchisee, and we map every one using demographic data, property profiles and drive times. Get in touch and we'll tell you honestly what's available near you.

How much can I earn?

We don't publish figures on the website. The brochure gives a guide to what a territory can turn over, and we'll go through the numbers properly with you so you can plan around your own situation.

The money
What does it cost to get started?

The brochure gives a guide to the joining fee and typical start-up costs. Our first five franchisees join at the founding rate, half the standard joining fee.

Can I get finance?

Most of your set-up can be funded through franchise finance, so you can start with a smaller deposit and manageable monthly repayments rather than paying it all up front. Subject to status.

What are the ongoing fees?

A management service fee and a marketing levy, both a percentage of turnover. They're set out in the brochure, and they're what keep the enquiry handling, the systems, the brand and the support running behind you.

Do I have to buy materials through you?

Sometimes, and when we do it that way it works in your favour: for some suppliers, ordering through us is what gets you our group rate, which is better than a new account would get on its own. Where it makes more sense for you to hold your own trade account, you will. We'll walk you through exactly how it works.

Day to day
Who takes the enquiries?

We do. New enquiries for your territory come through our central systems and are handled in your name, so nothing gets missed while you're on the tools. That's part of what the management service fee covers.

What software will I use?

Our own survey and pricing app for site visits, quoting and your pipeline, and Xero for your accounts.

Do I need premises or a yard?

Not to get started. There's no shop, no stock to carry, and materials are ordered per job, so you can run from home at first. As you grow, a yard or unit may start to make sense, and that's a good problem to have.

What about a van, tools and workwear?

You'll buy your own van, tools and kit, and we'll give you the exact tool list, so you know you're buying the right kit. We handle the branding side: livery, workwear, signage and print, all done to Tatton's spec, so you look the part from day one.

What happens after I fill in the questionnaire?

We read every application personally. If it looks like a good fit we'll send you the brochure and arrange a relaxed chat, usually within two working days.
